Reproduced from page 2 of the book so you can read it before printing.

Letter formation by grouping letters that share the same starting movements.

The four families

  • Curly c – letters that start with a curl (c, a, d, o, g, q, e, s)
  • Long ladder – letters that go down and back up (l, i, t, u, y, j)
  • One-armed robot – letters that go down and then bounce (r, n, m, h, b, p, k)
  • Zigzag monster – letters that go zigzag (z, x, v, w)

How to use

  • Look at the family name and the letters.
  • Trace each letter in the family.
  • Talk about how they all start the same way.
  • Practice the letters together.

Tips

  • Teach one family at a time.
  • Use the same formation story for each family.
  • These pages support consistent letter formation.
