Free early maths worksheets for Nursery and Reception
These free printable maths worksheets follow the EYFS mathematics goals for number and numerical patterns: counting reliably, recognising numerals, understanding quantities to 10, subitising, number bonds and comparing groups. Start with Count and Match and Five Frames, move on to Ten Frames and subitising with dice and dominoes, then add number formation rhymes and Number of the Day. The last books in the path cover one more and one less, more and fewer and number bonds to 5 and 10.
Every book opens with a how-to-use page for the adult, uses pictures children can count with a finger, and prints on normal A4 paper. Use counters, buttons or dried pasta alongside the sheets so numbers stay concrete.
Questions about early maths & counting
Which maths worksheets should a Reception child start with?
Counting and matching first (Count and Match, Count and Clip Cards), then five and ten frames so numbers are seen as groups, then number formation and Number of the Day. One more one less, comparing and number bonds come last.
Are these maths worksheets aligned to the EYFS?
Yes. They cover the Number and Numerical Patterns early learning goals: a deep understanding of numbers to 10, subitising, number bonds to 5 and 10, counting beyond 10 and comparing quantities.
Do I need any equipment?
A pencil and crayons for most pages. Counters, buttons or pasta make the frames and bonds pages hands-on, and the clip cards need pegs or paper clips.
